Salesforce Data Security-Encryption is Key

by | Jul 19, 2016 | Computer Software

Salesforce data security is one of the most important steps you should take to protect your business. The cloud is a great place for storage but it is also a very dangerous place. Wrapping your brain around the threats can be a bit of a challenge. The cloud is not really well understood so making an analogy may help you to better see the risk involved. The cloud is a lot like a large parking lot that is filled with files. Everyone in the world has the ability to use the cloud to park. Everyone is given a spot in this giant parking lot where they are supposed to stay. No one is supposed to reach over into the spot next to them or across the road to peek in the files but like when you see a pretty amazing car in a real parking lot the temptation to go over and take a closer look can be tremendous so it is in the cloud with other files.

Most People Don’t Look

For the most part the cloud is a very safe place because most people that use it are not looking to see what is happening in other spots but all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch. In some cases someone wants to look to see what you have in your files that they will go to the extreme to take a look which is why security is key but it is not enough to have one layer.

Encryption is a lot like having layers of protection akin to an onion. You peel back one layer to get to the inside and there is another layer that has to be peeled back. Effective security for salesforce data depends on having the right encryption that makes it impossible for unauthorized access. Encryption is:

  • The key to keeping your data safe
  • Can be deployed without any additional actions
  • Is a unique way of keeping out unauthorized access

Without the key you cannot get past the right encryption. Think of it as a wall around your parking spot that is lined in lead so not even X-ray vision can get through. You do not have to take any additional steps, it is deployed seamlessly once installed. It is unique to your business so there is no way anyone can get into your data or your parking spot in the cloud!
